How real is the reality of photography and graphic art? After world-wide Paparazzi forays and re-interpretations of Viennese Actionism ("Wiener Blut"), for example, the Graz-based G.R.A.M. collective is now investigating the techniques of (political) representation and the associated cult factor that is slowly seeping into the population. The basic material is made up of photographic self-enactments of the former Yugoslavian head of state Josip Broz Tito along with late documentary pictures of his wife Jovanka, who was under 'house arrest' for several years: enactment strategies between heroism and demise, the calculation of a statesman and the poetry of transience. The exhibition "When Tito dies" is a focused mythology that goes beyond a trendy, misty-eyed view of the past and conservative polit art discourse.
