“Further Processing” presents central positions of generative software art based on open source or, to be more precise, on the “Processing” programming language. This prize-winning software was developed by Casey Reas and Ben Fry at the MIT Boston and is available free of charge online. With the aid of “Processing” it is possible to develop visual and acoustic drafts that, in turn, create the material for further developments of the programming language and art works within a – potentially open – community. This ’author program‘ allows the user to generate interactive applications, on the basis of which the showcased audio-visual installations, animations and videos are created. “Further Processing” is based on an ongoing artistic exchange whose effects are reflected on a controversial aesthetic, technological and discursive level.
